“I welcome you to the newest courthouse in the state of North Carolina,” said Laquitta Green Cooper as she stood in front of the newly-constructed building. 

Green Cooper, who serves as Northampton County’s clerk of court, welcomed a large crowd to the ribbon-cutting celebration held Monday to mark the completion of the project, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald of Ahoskie reported. 

She acknowledged that this vision originally began with her predecessor, Venus Spruill, and now-retired Judge Alfred Kwasikpui several years ago.

Eastern North Carolina — An Investing in Rural America Town Hall was held today, Feb. 21 in Tarboro to discuss ways to rebuild the economy and create new opportunities for families in rural communities.

The town hall program focused on many important efforts today. Among those efforts include food insecurities and supporting small businesses and family farmers.

U.S. Congressman Don Davis says, “I grew up in Greene County North Carolina. I came from humble beginnings. My grandmother raised me.”

TARBORO, N.C., Feb. 21, 2024 – During a visit to Edgecombe County, N.C., a Rural Partners Network community, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack and White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden today announced that USDA is funding 216 projects in 45 states, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Mariana Islands to bring high-speed internet, clean water, state-of-the-art infrastructure and economic growth to rural communities as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

A Black North Carolina lawmaker wants the federal government to leave menthol cigarettes alone.


Rep. Don Davis, who represents the 1st Congressional District, where tobacco-related jobs are a major economic engine, opposes a ban. He told his House colleagues last week that the Food and Drug Administration’s planned prohibition of menthol cigarettes would harm his constituents’ economic well-being.

A pair of North Carolina lawmakers want the Food and Drug Administration to end a proposed ban on menthol cigarettes.


U.S. Reps. Don Davis and David Rouzer, who are members of the House Committee on Agriculture, sent a letter to President Joe Biden expressing concern about the FDA’s proposed rule to outlaw menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars and its impact on the state’s working families and farmers.

Rep. Don Davis has wrapped up a weeklong U.S. congressional delegation visit to Israel, one of America’s closest allies in the Middle East. 

Throughout his stay, Davis engaged in discussions focusing on the region’s complex geopolitics, highlighting the need for diplomatic progress and security collaboration. The central focus of his mission was to foster greater collaboration and understanding in a region often characterized by turmoil and conflict, according to a Thursday release from the congressman’s Greenville district office.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Congressman Don Davis is learning more from local veterans and people who work with them. He held a roundtable discussion on Monday with some of those people from the state and local levels.

People around the table voiced their challenges with getting veterans the services they need, especially in parts of rural Eastern North Carolina.

Rep. Don Davis replaced retired Democrat Rep. G.K. Butterfield this year and represents the state’s first district in the eastern part of the state.

Populating the walls of Davis’s Capitol Hill office are pictures of his time crisscrossing eastern North Carolina.

“So often people in the east feel left out, they feel left out in Raleigh, they feel left out in D.C.,” Davis said.

But it’s his time in D.C. that has raised questions among some in his own party.
