District Staff Assistant (Rocky Mount)

The Office of Congressman Donald G. Davis seeks a Staff Assistant for the Rocky Mount district office serving North Carolina’s First Congressional District. The Staff Assistant is the first point of contact between constituents and the Congressman’s office and plays a central role in delivering responsive, high-quality service to families across eastern North Carolina. This position reports directly to the District Director.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing the front office: answering phones, greeting visitors, and providing a welcoming, professional first impression for every constituent.
- Intaking casework requests and routing them to the appropriate caseworker; logging constituent opinions and tracking follow-up.
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail and drafting form and individual responses to constituent correspondence in coordination with district and DC staff.
- Supporting district events, town halls, and mobile office hours, including occasional staffing of the Congressman at community functions.
- Coordinating the district internship program, including recruitment, onboarding, daily supervision, and school documentation.
- Assisting local organizations with information about federal grant opportunities and notifications as directed by senior staff.
- Providing general administrative support to the District Director and other district staff, and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to public service, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a customer-service mindset. Applicants should be able to handle competing demands in a fast-paced environment, exercise sound judgment and discretion with sensitive constituent information, and work both independently and as part of a close-knit team. A bachelor’s degree is required. Prior administrative, customer service, or government experience is preferred. A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are required for travel within the district. Ties to the First Congressional District is strongly preferred.

2. District Press Secretary/Digital Manager
The Office of Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) is seeking a District Press Secretary/Digital Manager to join a fast-paced, collaborative communications team serving one of the most rural and agriculturally vital districts in the country. Working closely with the Communications Director, the District Press Secretary/Digital Manager helps execute a dynamic communications plan and manages day-to-day relationships with constituents and local and national media. Congressman Davis lives by a simple motto - meet people where they are - and we're looking for a storyteller who does the same: someone who can capture the people, places, and priorities of eastern North Carolina. This is not an entry-level position, and it is based full-time in the community and district offices.
Responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that promotes the Member's priorities; drafting press releases, advisories, talking points, op-eds, speeches, and digital content; managing all social media channels and web content; producing original photo and video content that reflects the district; monitoring news coverage and anticipating press inquiries; preparing the Member for interviews and public appearances; building relationships with local and national reporters; overseeing the Member's newsletter and questionnaires; and managing the Franking program.
Qualified candidates will bring at least two years of professional communications experience; strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills; proficiency in graphic design, photography, and videography; a sharp eye for social media content that resonates with a rural audience; knowledge of the legislative process and the organization of the House; and the ability to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines, including a flexible schedule that entails nights and weekends. A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, or a related field is preferred but not required. Ties to eastern North Carolina and a genuine understanding of rural and agricultural communities are strongly preferred.

3. Agriculture Legislative Assistant
The Office of Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant in his Washington, D.C. office.
The Legislative Assistant will primarily handle the Congressman's work on the House Committee on Agriculture, including in his capacity as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development, and will serve as his top advisor on the Farm Bill. The LA will also handle a broad portfolio of other policy issues, including natural resources (to encompass fisheries and coastal issues), energy and environment, transportation & infrastructure, technology, and telecommunications, to advance the priorities of North Carolina's 1st Congressional District. Applicants should have a demonstrated passion for agriculture, rural, and coastal policy issues.
Responsibilities are wide-ranging and include, but are not limited to: preparing for and staffing committee hearings and markups, drafting legislation and amendments, writing talking points and memoranda, developing legislative strategy, and interacting with key constituent groups and stakeholders. Successful candidates will be self-starters and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
