Greenville police get $1.4 million grant for new body and car cameras

March 27, 2024

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -The Greenville police department is going to be able to buy 220 new body-worn cameras and 80 in-car cameras.

Those cameras will be funded by $1.4 million in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 signed into law by President Biden.

Greenville police said on Facebook, “On behalf of the City of Greenville and GPD, we extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Thom Tillis and Congressman Don Davis, both of whom stopped by our headquarters this afternoon to show their support. Senator Tillis and Congressman Davis each submitted a community project funding request on our behalf and were instrumental in getting the federal dollars secured. Their efforts to support local law enforcement should not go unnoticed.”

GPD says since 2009, body-worn cameras have helped to promote the department’s overall mission of maintaining trust, transparency and improved police- citizen relationships.

Cameras secured through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 should be in place within the first quarter of 2025.
