Congressman Don Davis Votes to Safeguard National Security and Support Our Allies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) voted to advance four bills that make up the bipartisan national security supplemental package: H.R. 8035, the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024, H.R. 8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024,
H.R. 8038, the21st Century Peace through Strength Act, and H.R. 8036, theIndo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024. The legislation replenishes U.S. defense stockpiles while surging desperately needed aid to key allies under threat of aggression and terrorism.
“Safeguarding the American people and our allies and preserving democracies is in our best interest. We must work tirelessly towards achieving peace,” said Congressman Davis. “It’s past time we put politics aside and stand united to support the safety of eastern North Carolina families and those nationwide.”
"The Ukrainian people are at the frontlines of the fight for freedom. They are no longer fighting for Ukraine but for democracies around the world,” continued Congressman Davis. “After traveling to Ukraine two years after Russia’s unprovoked invasion, it was clear the Ukrainian people remain resilient, and their spirits remain high. The emergency security assistance passed today will ensure they get the munitions they need to stop Russia. At the same time, our allies Israel and Taiwan will now have the resources they need to defeat the world’s most extreme terrorists and our adversaries. It remains true that a threat to democracy anywhere is a threat to democracy right here in the United States.”
Key provisions in the package include:
- $23.2 billion across 30 states to replenish American-made defense systems and defense services provided to Ukraine.
- $4.4 billion to American-made defense systems and defense services provided to Israel.
- $1.9 billion to American-made defense systems and defense services provided to Taiwan and regional partners.
- $2.4 billion for current U.S. military operations in the Middle East in response to recent attacks on U.S. troops.
Since taking office, Congressman Davis has shown a commitment to defending democracy and safeguarding national security. In February, Congressman Davis visited Ukraine on the two year anniversary of Russia’s invasion. Last August, he toured Kfar Aza Kibutz, one of the sites in Israel where Hamas terrorists slaughtered hundreds of innocent people on October 7, 2023.
As a U.S.Air Force veteran, Congressman Davis recognizes the urgency of our national security challenges. Right before traveling to Ukraine, Congressman Davis co-led H.R. 7372, the Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act, bipartisan legislation to enhance border security and support our allies and helped encourage Congress to act as it did today.
Congressman Don Davis is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and serves on the House Armed Services Committee. Within the Armed Services Committee, he serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the Readiness Subcommittee.
