Congressman Don Davis Secures Top Assignments of Powerful Committees in the 119th Congress

January 23, 2025

Congressman Don Davis(NC-01) was appointed the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee's Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development. He will also serve as the vice ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee following his reappointment to both the House Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee for the 119th Congress.

“Agriculture and defense are North Carolina’s leading industries, the drivers of eastern North Carolina’s economy. We must keep our seat at the table,” said Congressman Don Davis. “My focus in the 119th Congress will remain on fighting for our farmers and protecting Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.”

Congressman Davis, who previously served on the House Agriculture Committee as the vice ranking member, will now assume a new leadership role as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development. The subcommittee’s work will focus on providing regulatory clarity for the cryptocurrency market, reauthorizing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and addressing rural development priorities included in the Farm Bill. With key bipartisan legislation moving through the U.S. House in the previous congress and President Trump signaling his support of digital assets, Congressman Davis will play a critical role in shaping U.S. digital assets legislation.

Congressman Davis will also serve on the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit and the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry. “I look forward to working with Congressman Don Davis to uplift the next generation of eastern North Carolina family farmers and lower costs for producers,” said Angie Craig (MN-02), Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee. “Together, we will ensure the House Agriculture Committee pushes forward nutrition and agricultural policies that improve the lives of farmers and families alike.”

After redistricting in North Carolina, there are 22 counties in the First Congressional District, which includes Wayne County and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (AFB). “I am so glad to welcome Seymour Johnson AFB and Wayne County back into North Carolina’s First Congressional District. The community is incredibly important to our region, and I will keep fighting to protect Seymour Johnson AFB and our regional economy,” added Congressman Don Davis

During the previous congress, Congressman Davis was a staunch champion for eastern North Carolina, even pushing back against the Biden administration that sought to divest an F-15E squadron at Seymour Johnson AFB, which would result in the cut of about 520 jobs. He will now serve as the vice ranking member of the full House Armed Services Committee. Congressman Davis has also been appointed to the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and will return to the Subcommittee on Readiness.

“Congressman Davis has been an invaluable asset for the work that we do since joining the committee. His experience as a veteran, educator, and public servant is incredibly important in informing the committee’s policies and strengthening HASC Democrats’ work to protect and promote our core priorities. That includes ensuring we are able to recruit and retain the world’s best, strongest, and most diverse fighting force; improving the Pentagon’s ability to buy and develop innovative technology; addressing critical munitions production needs; and working with allies and partners to meet challenges and threats worldwide. I congratulate him on his unanimous election as Vice Ranking Member of the committee, and I look forward to our work together this Congress on the HASC,” said Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Congressman Don Davis is a native of Greene County and a 1994 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.
