Attn: Mayor Coley H. Rhodes

Dear Members of the Stantonsburg Town Council:

RE: STANTONSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT DISSOLUTION

I am reaching out about the future of the Stantonsburg Police Department. It has come to my attention that the Stantonsburg Town Council, by 4-1 vote, has decided to dissolve the Stantonsburg Police Department effective October 1.

Establishing a police department is one of the most critical decisions a town council can make, and I strongly believe in its importance. I also understand the complexities involved in maintaining and dissolving an existing police department. As a former mayor and the current representative of North Carolina’s First Congressional District, I am deeply committed to protecting our residents, neighborhoods, and businesses, as I am sure you are too. In the past, my office has secured federal funds to support law enforcement efforts. While I understand that you have taken steps to dissolve the police department, I remain available between now and October 1 to assist in any way possible in exploring avenues that would allow the Stantonsburg Police Department to stay operational.

My staff has already initiated outreach to arrange a meeting, and I welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs. I will make myself available at your earliest convenience to discuss potential solutions. Many Stantonsburg residents have contacted my office, expressing both their strong support for keeping the police department intact and concerns about the decision to dissolve it.

Local governments play a crucial role in keeping our communities safe. Please let me know how I can be most helpful for you in this endeavor. You can reach my office at (202) 225-3101. Thank you for being so considerate.

I stand ready to help in any way.

Respectfully yours,

Donald G. Davis
Member of Congress
