Congressman Don Davis Rejects Bill that Hurts the Livelihood of Farmers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Don Davis’ (NC-01) statement following his vote on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023.
"The farmers of eastern North Carolina did not send me to Congress to make it harder for them. I voted no today on H.R. 2 because we must take our farmer's livelihoods off the table, so they can continue putting food on the table for households across this great country,” said Congressman Davis. “H.R. 2, with E-verify, does not address the workforce crisis, including fixing the broken H-2A system, and could cause a $60 billion drop in production, resulting in a 5 to 6 percent increase in prices at the grocery store when many of our families are still struggling to make it from week to week. I am here to work with anyone who wants to improve the quality of life for eastern North Carolina, rural America, and the American people because I do believe we can secure our border. However, we cannot secure the border while creating insecurity for our farm families. I stand with our farmers."
