Congressman Don Davis Recognizes First Responders After Cofield Feed Mill Explosion
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) spoke on the House Floor to honor the first responders who were first on the scene of the devastating February 21, 2026, explosion at the Perdue feed mill in Cofield, NC, which killed one person and injured three others. Congressman Davis recognized Captain Kendail Swain, Sergeant Tymesha Cherry, and Deputy Holden Brickhouse of the Hertford County Sheriff’s Department, along with Alex and Robert Ward of the Winton Volunteer Fire Department, who bravely entered the building to locate injured employees.
"When a deadly explosion rocked a feed mill in Cofield this past weekend, our remarkable first responders answered the call to duty without hesitation,” said Congressman Don Davis. “In the face of danger and uncertainty, they acted swiftly to save lives and provide critical assistance to those affected. We are deeply grateful to these outstanding first responders for their unwavering commitment and heroic service.”

When this past weekend’s explosion rocked Perdue’s feed mill in Cofield, North Carolina, it was our first responders who rushed toward danger, demonstrating an unwavering sense of duty without hesitation.
