Congressman Don Davis Connects With Eastern North Carolina During August Recess

Rocky Mount, N.C.— During the 2025 August congressional recess, Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) and his team traveled across all 22 counties in North Carolina’s First Congressional District, holding more than 75 events to meet residents, listen to their concerns, and celebrate the people who make the region strong.

From cities to rural communities, Rep. Davis visited schools, churches, factories, and community centers, emphasizing his commitment to understanding the challenges and opportunities facing eastern North Carolina. Seven listening sessions brought together healthcare providers, farmers, nonprofit leaders, teachers, elected officials, clergy, and local families to share their stories and priorities.

Eastern North Carolina is more than my district; it is my home,” said Congressman Don Davis. “During August, my team and I traveled across every county to hear directly from the people whose voices guide my work. Their dedication, resilience, and hope inspire everything I do in Washington.”

Healthcare, education, and agriculture were top concerns. Residents discussed the challenges facing rural hospitals, including the vital role of Martin General Hospital, and discussed the urgent need for a Farm Bill that supports local farmers. Teachers, students, and school administrators highlighted the importance of quality education for every child, no matter their zip code.

In addition to his work at home, Congressman Davis traveled internationally to Mexico, where he met with President Claudia Sheinbaum and government leaders to discuss issues that impact eastern North Carolina, including trade and immigration. He also visited the U.S. Air Force Academy, reflecting on his own experience as an academy graduate and engaging with cadets about leadership, service, and the challenges facing today’s military.

Congressman Davis said the August recess was not just a pause from Washington, D.C., but an opportunity to remain connected with constituents, carry their voices back to the nation’s capital, and shape policies that reflect the values and needs of eastern North Carolina.
