Congressman Don Davis Appointed to the United States Air Force Academy Board of Visitors
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The office of U.S. Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced his appointment by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors.
“I’m grateful for this appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. It means a lot,” said Congressman Davis. “As a Class of 1994 graduate, I look forward to engaging with the cadets and ensuring they have the tools necessary to successfully lead our U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force as we face growing threats to our national security from around the world.”
Congressman Davis is the first African American U.S. Air Force Academy graduate elected to Congress. He served eight years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. During his six terms in the North Carolina Senate, he led on military issues and previously served eight years on the East Carolina University Board of Visitors.
Davis was first elected to the 118th Congress and serves on the House Armed Services Committee. He is the vice-ranking member of the Subcommittee on Readiness and also serves on the Subcommittee on Military Personnel. Recently, Davis publicly supported U.S. Air Force General C.Q. Brown’s nomination by President Biden to serve as the next chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors is a federal advisory committee composed of appointees by the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, and the House and Senate Armed Services Committees Chairmen. The role of the Board is to act as an independent civilian advisory council and to provide recommendations on the curriculum, instruction, discipline, and other matters related to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The Board of Visitors investigates the morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the Academy.
