Congressman Don Davis Announces Federal Funds for Addiction Research at Eastern Carolina University
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded East Carolina University a grant to research substance abuse and addiction through their RACING AHEAD (Research-focused Assessment of Capacity, Institutional Needs and Growth strategies to Advance Health Equity and Address Disparities) Project.
“Addiction is a widespread illness affecting many families across eastern North Carolina,” said Congressman Don Davis. “It’s crucial to deepen our understanding of substance abuse and addiction to better assist family members in accessing the necessary support.”
The HHS Administration approved the following grants for NC-01:
- East Carolina University Drug Abuse and Addiction Research Programs: $377,498
East Carolina University has a longstanding mission to serve rural eastern North Carolina, a region with significant health disparities. This RACING AHEAD project will identify gaps in health disparities research capacity through an institutional needs assessment and develop an action plan, which will jumpstart growth in biomedical research funding to advance health equity in our region by leveraging existing strengths, reducing identified barriers, and building a supportive infrastructure.
